Montenegro means black mountain, so the brief started with the name itself. The new mark hides a mountain ridge inside the letter M, with a sun rising above the peaks. It is a nod to the first time the olympiad comes to Montenegro, and to the early starts on the two contest days.
From sketch to symbol
The design team went through more than forty sketches before settling on the final shape. Early versions leaned on geometric figures and proof symbols, but the mountains kept coming back as the one image everyone recognised at a glance.
“We wanted something a fifteen-year-old would be proud to wear on a lanyard, not just a logo for a letterhead.”
